COMRADES!

Our original aim was to provide enjoyable touring events for classic cars from the former Soviet Union and Soviet bloc. Following the success of the first SALT events, we have opened up our tours to all Cold War Era vehicles (pre 25 December 1991), both Western as well as Soviet Bloc. Our events are for YOUR cars (as well as bikes, vans, lorries, tanks etc) - as long as it's road legal, it can be a part of our events!

WHAT HAPPENS ON A SALT TOUR?

Basically, we have fun in our Cold War era vehicles, touring scenic routes (NOT a race!), and visiting sites of Cold War interest. Every entrant gets a rally plate to affix to their vehicle, and a comprehensive guide book.

During the event there is a Cold War-related Quiz, the winners of which can pick up a valuable prize. Last time round the top prize was a fully-featured SatNav system. A highlight of the event is our Gala Dinner (at extra cost) where we dress in our finest, enjoy a good meal, and present the quiz prizes. Every vehicle is presented with a glass souvenir plaque: last time's looked like this:

Finally, at the Gala dinner we award the Commissar's Choice Cup Presentation trophy

This fine trophy is a genuine 1970s cup from the former Soviet Union, and is awarded for one year to the entry best typifying the spirit of the event - maybe they travelled a long way, or finished a heroic rebuild to be with us. Perhaps their vehicle is especially rare, or maybe the entrants joined in by dressing in appropriate period clothing - it could be anything, at our discretion. The winners also recieve free entry to the following year's SALT Rally.
